As most of my customers already know, I tend to always stress how important it is to have an annual service on your boiler. Ideally, before a Winter break-down!
It’s been seasonally busy already this year and I’m managing to stay on top of my regular boiler repair work in Chippenham, despite this week’s floods.
Cleaning an expansion cistern…
is about as much fun as it sounds. Here’s the before image:
As you can see, the expansion cistern had gathered a signicant amount of rust & other heating system deposits, and was in a pretty grim state.
This is the sort of job that some boiler engineers will swerve when they carry out an annual service. Of course, it takes extra time & effort but it is fundamentally worthwhile, as it will help prevent the system clogging up.
Here’s the after:
Much better.
Another aspect of maintaining a healthy heating system is installing/ maintaining a magnetic filter. Here’s one I sorted out last week:
As you can see, the column of powerful magnets do an excellent job of removing metallic waste accumulations from your pipes & radiators.
If you don’t have a magnetic filter installed on your central heating system, it can usually be carried out without too much fuss.
First I install a small section of new pipework with the opening for the new filter onto the return part of the system:
Once this is done, the magnetic filter is fitted:
It simply screws onto the threaded section.
I know I don’t post very often here, but I’ll try to put some more exciting Chippenham boiler-related news soon…
Thanks for reading!
